Family Day Care Services is a non-profit, charitable organization with a long and distinguished history of providing high-quality early learning and child care services to children and families throughout Toronto, York and Peel Regions. As a multi service organization with over 500 employees, Family Day provides a broad range of services to over 65 locations including: 29 Child Care Centres, 49 Before and After Care programs, 136 Licensed Home Child Cares, 9 EarlyON programs, 2 Homework Plus programs, and Special Needs Resourcing for children and their families living in the Greater Toronto Area.

Established in 1851 as a charitable organization, Family Day has been serving children (from infancy to 12 years of age) and their families within the Greater Toronto Area ever since. It has grown to a $30 million organization with approximately 550 management and staff. Family Day continues to provide quality early learning and care for children, and to support parents to be successful in their very important role through its:

•             Licensed home and centre-based child care

•             Five Ontario Early Years Centres

•             Family resource programs

•             Toronto Special Needs Resourcing

•             Two Homework Plus Programs

Family Day is looking for a Director, Programs to succeed the retiring incumbent.

The Director, Programs is responsible for the leadership of all programs and services of the organization while maintaining the vision and mission of Family Day. The Director will provide leadership in the co-ordination, planning and delivery of Early Learning and Care programs and services for Family Day Care Services within the limits of the strategic plan. This role participates as a member of the senior management team focusing on strategic direction and policy development and ensures that the organization complies with all regulatory requirements in relationship to early learning and care programs and services. As the designated lead, this individual will act in the absence of the CEO on the occasions of the CEO’s vacation or as directed by the CEO.   

What you bring to the role:

  • A visionary and strategic thinker who is able to implement the strategic directions of the organization
  • Broad knowledge and experience in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, and Family Support management methodology
  • Experience with community development and capacity building (business or people development)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Sound knowledge of all relevant legislation, including provincial and municipal policies, procedure and guidelines
  • Mature leader with a mentoring and coaching leadership style
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills to represent the interests of Family Day both internally and externally
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills in order to assess needs, develop proposals and reports
  • Sound management skills, organizational development technique and experience leading change initiatives
  • Sound knowledge, understanding and ability in the area of evaluation, measurement and outcomes
  • Knowledge and experience in HIGH FIVE®, PHCD or HIGH FIVE® Sport is a definite asset
  • Experience in community development and program development
  • Strong organizational development and management behaviour theory and knowledge

Education: 

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Early Learning and Care or related area of study; or Early Childhood Education
